Munich: VW concept for €20,000 electric car

Volkswagen showed a concept for a new compact electric car this morning at Munich, which is expected to sell for €20,000 when launched in 2025, writes Brian Byrne.

The company says the ID. Life production version will arrive two years earlier than planned, as part of its Accelerate strategy towards electric mobility.

Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said the car is aimed at a younger generation of car users for whom the experiences that a car can offer are more important than getting from A to B.

A 234hp electric motor in the concept offers a sprint capability of 6.9s to 100km/h, and has a range of around 400km.

The showcar features a video game console and projector to a screen that extends from the dashboard when needed.
