McLaren P1 GTR to debut at Geneva

McLaren will debut what they call a production-intent model of the most powerful and most exclusive of their models to date at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.

It will be shown in Geneva ahead of the start of production later this year; the track-only model will make its global debut in production form at the Swiss auto show.

It looks set to be one of the fastest to ever wear the famous McLaren 'speed mark'. It is powered by an petrol-electric powertrain and will boast a power-to-weight ratio increase in excess of 10 percent over the road-going model, to more than 700hp per tonne.

The limited edition McLaren P1 GTR is presently being put though its paces in extreme testing across Europe and the Middle East with Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin at the wheel.

McLaren P1 GTR debuts at Chantilly

The McLaren P1 GTR design concept made its European premier at this weekend's Chantilly Arts & Elegance concours, following a global unveil last month at the Pebble Beach automotive weekend.

First images show the car in the famous race track design camouflage during the initial testing phase.

This will be the most track-tailored and most powerful model produced by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) to date. Power has been increased to 986bhp.

The next stage of development will be optimising the aerodynamic performance. Further testing will continue over the winter months and the final example of the road-going McLaren P1, the P1 GTR, will achieve the goal of being the ultimate drivers' car on track - two decades on from the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans win by the legendary McLaren F1 GTR.

The French event is celebrating the French way of life, showcasing some of the most exclusive concept cars designed by today's leading car makers.

McLaren 12C Spider takes on a Snowboarder

The launch of a quarter of a million euro sports car in America was marked by the McLaren 12C Spider taking on a snowboarder in a 'race' through the notoriously treacherous Loveland Pass in Colorado in the Rocky Mountains.

A video shows the 3.8-litre, 616hp McLaren 12C Spider navigating the tricky, snow-covered route 'racing' against professional snowboarder Chanelle Sladics.

The 12C Spider is being driven in the video by Rhys Millen. The native New Zealander is the current overall record holder for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, 2005 Formula Drift champion and 2008 Drifting World Champion. Rhys has appeared in over 500 commercials spanning 20 years and films including several appearances within the Fast and the Furious franchise, Indiana Jones and is curretnly working on a new film project soon to be released.

Chanelle takes the most direct route across the snow covered landscape. At 11,990 (3,655m) above sea level, Loveland is the highest mountain pass in the world that stays open during the winter months.

The 12C Spider made its global debut in North America last year. Check out the video on the official McLaren Automotive YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/McLarenAutomotiveTV.
