Cadillac coming to Dublin

Premium US carmaker Cadillac is to have its first showroom in Ireland, in Dublin, writes Brian Byrne. The outlet is in association with the Charles Hurst Group and will only have electric models.

The Lyric and Vistiq models are being showcased at the upcoming NEVO EV Motor Show in Dublin. A third model, the Optiq, will follow in 2026. Cadillac is part of the General Motors Group.

Cadillac has been selling electric cars in Europe since 2023. The Lyric is currently available in Switzerland, France, Sweden and Germany. It's a 550hp SUV with a rated range of around 530km.

The new dealership, in south Dublin, will open in 2026.

We've been hearing a lot about Google's self-driving car experiments. Well, the real carmakers are working on it too.

The video above is Cadillac's take on the idea, and works on the basis that a lot of the technology needed is already in some of its current and next-year cars.

'Kitchen Caddy' on sale

If you think that having all these cupholders in modern cars is an Americanism taken too far, it could be worse.

This is a 1956 Cadillac Maharani Special, which had not only cupholders, but a kitchen sink to wash them in!


It was produced for that year's General Motors Motorama travelling car show, where the giant carmaker didn't just showcase new models and technologies, but provided more than the usual 'Gee Whiz!' ideas so that its brands would be remembered.


The Maharani Special showcar was up for sale at the first of the 2010 RM Auctions events, with a guide price of up to $200,000.

A kitchen on wheels, it also features an electric hot plate, a toaster, and a refrigerator. There is enough storage for the finest china as well as a cutlery tray that features individual positions for forks, knives and spoons.

There’s even enough room for a custom-crafted folding table as well as a coffee dispenser. A chef could sit in the back and deal with the whole business while his boss looked after the commute.

Small Caddy wagon coming

A station wagon version of Cadillac's BLS will be launched in the autumn, with the expectation that it will further boost sales of the Saab-derived small 'Caddy'.



The BLS was responsible for 42 percent of the 2,900 Cadillacs sold in Europe last year. The company has a target of achieving 20,000 a year by 2010.

The brand may also build a wagon version of its new generation CTS, as well as a coupe. The new CTS was shown at Geneva and is expected to be available in Ireland early next year. BB
