There will be two engine options initially, a 2.0 diesel and a 1.6 turbocharged petrol with 153hp. A 200hp version of the 1.6 will be available later.
Prices haven't been finalised yet, but something in the region of €35,000 seems likely.
The car comes with a distinctive 'double bubble' wrapover rear screen and a pop-up bonnet to help diminish injury to pedestrians in an impact.
Peugeot dealers are taking orders and deposits now for the car, which Peugeot in Europe expect to sell 17,000 of in 2011. Irish sales of the 'halo' car will be in the region of 150 next year.
