S-MAX carries Ford high hopes

Ford is hoping for a total Europe market annual sale of 60,000 units of its S-MAX, which has just gone on sale in Ireland.

The S-MAX was devised with the dual purpose of offsetting falling sales of Mondeo and making the production of the next generation Galaxy viable.

The S-MAX is built on the same platform and with the same running gear as the new Galaxy, but is bodied to appeal to younger people.

The new Galaxy goes on sale in Ireland in July.
