April 17, 1917 was the date Henry Ford & Son Ltd was incorporated as a limited company in Ireland under the Companies Acts of 1908 and 1913.Since that important day, the company became synonymous with Cork.
Henry Ford’s grand-father and father had emigrated from Cork to Michigan in 1847 at the height of the famine. Henry Ford was born in 1863 and in 1903 set up the Ford Motor Company. As the company went from strength to strength and began to expand overseas, he went back to his roots in Cork to establish Henry Ford & Son Ltd in 1917.
The Cork plant was responsible for producing hundreds of thousands of Ford trucks, tractors and cars until production was ceased in 1984. BB.
