Expect to see more automatic Renaults in their lineup as they work to lower their fleet-wide CO2 emissions.
Sounds funny? Not really. The automatics in question will be continuously variable transmissions (CVT) and dual clutch automated manuals.
Both systems are more fuel efficient than standard autoboxes, and the DCTs are even more so than a normal manual.
Nissan and Audi are the only two mainstream manufacturers who use CVTs in Europe, although the systems are more common in Asian markets. Toyota, Lexus and Honda also use them in their hybrid cars.
DSGs have been pioneered in VW Group vehicles, but other carmakers including Ford, Fiat, and Volvo are also in the process of introducing them.
