Mini gets new engines

The Mini range is getting new petrol engines in the spring which give more power and torque to all models.

The engine is 1.6 litres in capacity, up from the current 1.4 petrol. It features variable valve timing, and a number of technical improvements make the unit almost 9 percent more efficient than the current power unit.

The 98hp engine has CO2 emissions of 127g/km in the Mini One, and 129g/km in the Clubman variant.

Acceleration is marginally improved.

The Mini Cooper S also gains power, thanks in part to the use of a twin-scroll turbocharger. Its 1.6 engine will have 184hp and a very wide torque band from as low as 1,600rpm. It offers a 7-second sprint to 100 km/h.

New colours will also be released with the spring powertrain improvements.
