Murphy says a key objective of his tenure will be to build on the growth that was experienced in the Irish car market this year, maintaining the momentum that was brought about by the scrappage scheme. He is also anxious to have changes made to the car registration system, which he says is 'ripe for change'.
"It brings huge strain on both car dealers and the registration authorities for the first couple of months of the year. We have had this system for 23 years now and it is high time that we found a system that better meets the needs of motorists, the motor industry and government.”
Murphy also raised the topic of re-registration of second-hand cars. “It makes common-sense to allow for the re-registration of cars from county to county. A change like this would be welcomed by car dealers and consumers alike.”
