Following a five week break car racing returns to Mondello Park with a Formula Vee grid backed up by strong entries for the popular Irish Touring Car Championship and Formula Libre. The weekend's busy programme means that for the second time this year some qualifying sessions will take place on Saturday evening, leaving the way clear for a Sunday made up almost entirely of racing.
The Budget single seater racers of Formula Vee will provide the biggest field of the day for their single championship round, made up of a Qualifying Race and Final. A full grid of 32 cars for both races will make for a very busy track and close racing, as always, will be guaranteed.
The second biggest field of the day will line-up for the third round of the new Irish Touring Car Championship. On only its second Mondello appearance the ITCC field has grown to 25 cars with the addition of some very strong driver and car combinations. Former Dunlop Supercar champion Johnny Whelan, in an ex BTCC production class Peugeot, and Robbie Thornthon with his Mitsubishi Evo, are just two of the drivers making their debut this weekend.
Formula Libre is always spectacular with its mix of powerful Formula 3000 style machines and more nimble Formula 3 cars battling at the head of the field. The class also provides more chassis variety than any other Irish championship with a field of more than twenty cars made up of all kinds of single seaters and open top sports cars set to race twice on Sunday.
The remainder of the weekends programme will be made up of double headers for Striker Sportscars, Formula Sheane and Global Lights, while the Historic cars will have just one race. As an additional feature Sunday's programme will include the launch of the new Ginetta Junior championship for 14-17 year olds. The Ginetta sportscars will be on track for a ten minute demonstration in the middle of Sunday afternoons race programme.
Mondello Park's cut price ticket offers continue for this event with reduced price single adult admission available for €10 through the special offers section of the Mondello web site. In addition to regular ticket offers, groups travelling together can also gain admission for just €20 per car and up to five passengers.
