That represents a 54 percent increase in sales this year, and according to the SIMI, it now looks that overall sales for 2010 will be in excess of 80,000 units, a big improvement on last year's disaster in the showrooms.
Sales for the period in 2008, for comparison, were 113,250.
Meanwhile, according to the Motorcheck.ie figures, used passenger imports to date stand at 20,131, which is 26 percent down on this time last year.
New Commercial vehicle registrations are up 25 percent to 8,592, but still very far short indeed of the 26,132 figure of 2008 for the same period.
Motorcycle registrations are down by a third on last year to 739, compared to sales for the period in a far healthier 2008 of 1,813.
