Healthy interest in Nissan's Leaf

Pre-orders for Nissan's Leaf electric car in the US and Japan now total twice the planned production for the current fiscal year of the carmaker, which ends next March.

Some 13,000 of these have been in the US, where the booking fee is $99 for the car, which will cost just under €30,000 in Ireland when it launches next February.

Nissan had planned to produce 10,000 units between now and April 2011, while the company is planning 200,000 units a year by 2012, with production in Japan, the US and England.
