Chrysler brand to disappear from Europe

Ireland and the UK will be the only markets in Europe where the Chrysler brand will remain after mid-2011.

This is the result of a restructuring of distribution by the Fiat-owned former US major carmaker which will see Chrysler based models in Europe sold as Fiat brands like Lancia, and Lancia models sold as Chryslers in the US.

Some 1,100 dealers of the two brands across Europe have been notified that their contracts will expire next May.

Lancia hasn't sold in the UK and Ireland since 1991. Chrysler products are imported to Ireland by the OHM Group.

It is believed that Jeep models will be retained within their own brand.
