Towards cars that drive themselves

During its current international launch of its next generation S60, Volvo is making much of the first in-car system that can sense an imminent collision with pedestrians and brake automatically if the driver doesn't.

Volvo says its ultimate opjective is to provide cars in which it is impossible for the occupants to be killed in an accident.

But that's just a small part of the overall technological advances which are pointing us to a future where the cars effectively drive themselves. As reported in The Washington Post.
