Toyota Ireland has introduced a number of the new plug-in Prius hybrid cars to Ireland for evaluation before the full launch of the model in 2012.
The three cars, which provide the ability for full emissions-free electric drive for up to 20kms, will be evaluated in use by a number of leading Irish and multinational companies.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Government, Toyota Ireland and the ESB for the evaluation over the next 18 months. It is hoped the programme will provide real world user experience.
The new plug-in Prius also uses lithium-ion batteries for the first time in a Toyota hybrid.
