Mondello Park has announced that Motorcycle Insurance specialists Adelaide Insurance Services are to become title sponsor of the circuit’s new 'Masters' Motorcycle Racing series, writes Fergus Brennan. The twelve round championship, which is jointly promoted by Mondello Park and Motorcycling Ireland's short circuit committee, will become the 'Adelaide Masters Series' and is set for a bumper year with an increased prize fund, TV coverage on UTV and satellite channels and a major marketing programme.
The 'Adelaide Masters Series' will combine the Mondello Superbike Championship with the 'Mondello Masters' title to create the biggest motorcycle racing championship on the Island of Ireland. Adelaide are a major supporter of Irish Motorcycling through their sponsorship of the Irish Racer Awards, Kells International Road Races and the Belfast Motorcycle Festival, and their support of the Masters Series is set to further boost this expanding championship.
Speaking on the championship announcement Sam Geddis, Adelaide's founder and director, said "Since 1992 investing in motorcycling has been part of Adelaide's ethos, because from the very start, motorcyclists were never a mere sideline - instead they take centre stage. We've found that sponsorship is a great way of making a contribution to a sport which many of customers enjoy, so we're delighted to be part of the "Adelaide Masters Series".
Mondello Park MD John Morris also commented: “The Adelaide Masters Series will run to a format and standard very close to BSB. It will completely raise the bar for short circuit racing in Ireland and this year represents the first of a multi-year development of the series, which along with Adelaide and our other partners, we hope to raise to a level never seen before in Ireland.”
With a €50,000 prize fund, unprecedented TV coverage on terrestrial and satellite channels and a very popular race day format, the Adelaide Masters Series will be the highlight of the Irish Short Circuit Motorcycle Racing season during 2011. The success of the first year of the championship in 2010 and the increased investment by both Mondello Park and Motorcycling Ireland has created huge interest and has already attracted a number of top line riders and teams to further increase the growing profile of the series.
The Adelaide Masters Series kicks off on April the 2nd and 3rd with the first three rounds of the series. The remaining nine races take place over three more weekends culminating in the October 1st and 2nd Adelaide Masters Finale which will carry double prize money. In addition to Adelaide's Support the championship has also attracted backing from Moto GP tyre supplier Bridgestone and Energy Drink Relentless with other sponsors set to be revealed over the coming weeks.
