Tipperary hurler, Lar Corbett has taken delivery of a Ford Transit Connect van from Barlo Motors, main Ford dealer in Thurles. Lar has become an ambassador for Barlo Motors, writes Trish Whelan.
He is pictured above receiving the keys to his new Transit Connect from Conor Brett of Barlo Motors.
According to Lar: "The Transit Connect is roomy with ample space for my tools, equipment and the big gear bag that I drag everywhere with me." But what really surprised him is the driving comfort and the economy of the diesel engine.
An electrician by trade, Lar has also been involved in the pub business for a number of years. This month, he and a business partner have opened the Lar Corbett's at Coppinger's Pub and Club in Thurles.
With his club (Thurles Sarsfields) and inter-county hurling duties, and his professional activities as both an electrician and a publican, he can rack up a mileage of around 30,000 km a year.
His Transit Connect is the new 2011 edition with a short wheel base and a 1.8 litre TDCi engine. Last year, the Transit Connect was voted Continental Irish Van of the Year by the Van Jury of the Irish Motoring Writers Association.
