A device that 'locks out' persistent speeders is going on test in The Netherlands, writes Brian Byrne.
Developed by a Dutch/UK company, Technolution, the 'Speed Lock' is to be used by 80 volunteers in the Netherlands to see how it works out.
It is aimed at fleet operators and haulage companies using vans, but could be used also to keep private motorists within speed bounds.
The device consists of a monitor that shows the speed limit on the current road. If a vehicle operator persistently breaks the limit, it will lock their engine into a limiter mode which will make it impossible to drive above the limits.
