ActiveHybrid to boost 5 Series
A new BMW 5 Series model with the company's ActiveHybrid technology will provide the performance of the top variant 535i but with 16 percent less emissions and improved fuel economy, writes Brian Byrne.
The ActiveHybrid 5 saloon will be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November and will be available in RHD production versions from next February.
The 340hp petrol power train comprises a 3.0 straight six in conjunction with an electric motor integrated into the transmission housing. With 149g/km emissions it will fit in the C band in Ireland while offering 5.9 seconds 0-100km/h performance.
The car will also come with a satellite navigation system that will predict extra power needs for the terrain ahead and provide extra stored energy in the battery system.
