Conditions of Irish roads 'a worry'

Eight in 10 Irish motorists believe that the condition of Irish roads has worsened since last year, according to a recent AA poll, writes Trish Whelan.

The spend on road maintenance has been substantially reduced in the last few years.

"The roads, especially secondary roads, took a lot of damage in the exceptional freeze events of 2010. Not enough was done to rectify that afterwards and since then we have endured chronic under-funding of road maintenance."

The AA gets complaints and attends car breakdowns caused by potholes and dangerous road surfaces on a daily basis.
