A new generation Golf R to be revealed at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show will have a 300hp engine that pulls it to 100km/h in a blistering 5.3 seconds, writes Brian Byrne.
But even though it is faster than its predecessor, the new R will offer fuel consumption up to 18 percent better.
Golf R's engine is based on the one in the GTI, but with a modified cylinder head, exhaust valves, valve seats and springs, pistons, injection valves and turbocharger. It is also 4WD.
It will be on sale for the January buying period at a price in the region of €53,000.
