Opel improves Insignia

Opel has made substantial revisions to its Insignia model, making it the most aerodynamic car in its class, writes Brian Byrne.

The latest version will debut at Frankfurt, offering the lowest CO2 in its segment thanks to a number of design features, including an automatic shutter on the front grille which closes when less cooling air is required.

New extended underbody covers and detail changes to the front spoiler and taillight housings have also helped make the car more slippery through the air.

The 2.0 diesel engine outputs 140hp and now has a 99g/km CO2 output with Start-Stop technology.

Inside is a redesigned console and instrument cluster with fewer buttons and a more intuitive user interface.

The new version of the Insignia will be in Ireland before the end of the year.
