Super-frugal petrol Focus

Ford has announced a new version of its Focus which offers 99g/km CO2 emissions from a petrol-powered engine, writes Brian Byrne.

The performance makes it first compact family petrol car to achieve this result in a production version.

It uses a 100hp version of the 1.0 EcoBoost 3-cylinder unit already familiar in Focus and Fiesta cars.

The fuel economy is the equivalent of 67.5mpg.
