Audi has launched the latest generation of its new flagship model, the A8, priced from €92,800 OTR, writes Trish Whelan.
Buyers of this ultra luxurious car have a choice of five petrol and TDI diesel engines, most of which have been revised to improve performance and efficiency.
The new 3.0 TDI 260bhp will be the main seller. This engine gains 10bhp more than before, while emissions have fallen 14g to leave it at 155g/km which qualifies for tax band C or annual road tax of €390. Of interest also to Irish buyers will be the 4.2 TDI diesel which has been upgraded to 385hp with a whopping 850Nm of torque.
The S8 tops out the range. Its 4.0 TFSI petrol engine blasts it from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds. It's capable of up to 28mpg corresponding to 225g/km C02.
The new A8 is equipped with a smooth-shifting, eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission which transmits power to all four wheels via the quattro permanent AWD system.
Full LED headlights are standard on the car, a first for a model range for Audi in Ireland.
A new SE Executive line is available to order. It features 19-inch alloy wheel upgrade, adaptive cruise control, comfort seats and Audi's 360 degree birds-eye camera.
This flagship A8 also comes with a raft of technological advances.
