Ford: drivers can save €1,000 a year on fuel

As people gear up for the May bank holiday weekend in Ireland, Ford is highlighting four easily applied fuel-saving tips that could see motorists better off to the tune of €1,000 a year. The survey was commissioned by Ford Motor Company.

The four simple tricks that could help you save as much as 33 percent on fuel are:

Removing the roof-top cargo box (20%)
Shopping around for fuel (7%)
Checking and optimising tyre pressures every month (4%)
Removing excess weight from inside the car (2%)

The survey of 5,700 people from across Europe showed that 76 percent of motorists do not regularly check tyres, 38 percent never remove roof storage equipment, 18 percent never shop around, and 17 percent always leave extra items in the car.

The poll also revealed more opportunities to cut fuel consumption - 71 percent of drivers admit breaking speed limits, 42 percent never choose the most economical route, 39 percent drive aggressively, and 14 percent leave the air conditioning on all the time. Around half of drivers add to their bill by impulse shopping at filling stations.
