'Slow down for Easter' — Garda/RSA

The Garda/Road Safety Authority message for this Easter weekend is 'Slow Down'.

There will be high-visibility checkpoints around the country targeting motorists driving above the posted limits.

In the first quarter of this year, speeding tickets issued are 16 percent above the same period in 2013.

According to analysis of the figures, totalling almost 45,000 fixed charge notices, nine out of ten were travelling 10 km/h or more above the limit. This included 11 percent travelling at 30km/h or more above the limit.

Predictably, 50km/h zones are the worst for speeding offences.
