New Passat will debut at Paris

A new Volkswagen Passat due to debut at Paris in October will be smaller and lighter than the current car, but will offer more interior space, writes Brian Byrne.

With an 85kg weight advantage over the current version, it will also offer fuel savings of up to 20 percent, the maker says.

New Passat will be available in saloon and wagon variants, and the interior details will include a touchscreen instead of traditional instruments.

The model name has been around for more than four decades.
