Opel's new OnStar Technology wins award

Opel drivers will soon enjoy high-speed mobile connectivity, writes Trish Whelan.

For the second year running, Opel has won a Connected Car Award for the digital connectivity of their vehicles.

We will see this OnStar in selected European markets, including Ireland, this year.

Each vehicle will be fitted with 4G LTE, so the car becomes a powerful, mobile Wi-Fi hotspot giving easier access to apps and services that require a high-speed cellular or data connection, for up to seven mobile devices. OnStar will also offer automatic emergency services after an accident, giving details in case of breakdown. It can also open accidentally locked doors via a mobile app and can locate a stolen vehicle. Drivers can also contact the call centre at the touch of a button.

Opel also won a Pioneer Award last year for the IntelliLink Infotainment system in their Adam small car.
