VW's cross up! goes on Europe advance order

It isn't here yet, but Volkswagen is taking advance orders across Europe for the cross up! ruggedised small car shown at Geneva earlier this year, writes Brian Byrne.

With a 15mm higher ground clearance and a suspension designed for more strenuous conditions, it's nevertheless more of a look than an off-roader.

Alloy wheels, 'cross' design front and rear bumpers, colour contrasting side mirrors and black side guard trims with the 'cross up!' badge are the exterior details, along with a silver anodised roof rail and high-gloss chrome-plated strips on front and rear.

Inside is a standard leather package, colour-coordinated dashpad, seat covers in 'cross' design and orange ambient lighting. Power comes from a 75hp or a 90hp 1.0 petrol engine.
