The new Citroen C4 is now on sale in Ireland in petrol, diesel and full electric versions, at a starting price of €24,740, writes Brian Byrne.
Although a C-segment hatchback, the coupe-styled car offers SUV-like height and interior space, with rear passenger knee room claimed as best in class. The new front end design includes a lighting signature that the brand plans to roll out through its new models.
There's a mix of simplicity and typical Citroenesque styling in the interior, with the welcome return of real knobs and switches to key controls like climate and radio volume. On an early familiarisation drive, the promise and ethos of comfort which is the brand's main selling point certainly seems to be borne out.
The powertrain options are familiar from other brands within the Stellantis group that formed from the merger of PSA and Fiat Chrysler Auto. For the C4 they are 100hp/130hp/155hp petrols with 6-speed manual or auto 8-speed. Diesels are 110hp/130hp with the same transmission options. The full electric version has a rated range of 350km, an increase of some 30-40km from the same platform in other models in the group which is attributed in part to a very aerodynamic shape.
The car comes in four grades, with the entry grade specified so that it is attractive to buyers rather than just there to provide a low lead-in price.
At the launch this week, Citroen Ireland MD Colin Sheridan spoke of 'a very exciting time' for the brand in Ireland, which is now being distributed by the Gowan Group. He also highlighted competitive finance, a 5-year warranty, and 3-year roadside assistance offer with the new C4.
